12/21 Club Workout

We were supposed to run 12 x 600 on the track this morning but it was raining too hard to run on the track. Therefore, some of us went over to Westmont high school and ran on their quad. 5 laps around the quad equals a mile. The relay was 10 x 2-laps. The finishers were:

1-Mathias/Vargas 22:53
2-Kriege/Warfel 23:10
3-Noel/Chappell 23:26
4-Napier/McCormick 25:14
5-Root/Norlander 27:23
6-DeMartinis/VanZant 28:20
7-Ettare/McPhail 28:48

We did not keep the individual splits but it appeared that Kristina and Becki may have had the two best averages.

We had excellent weather conditions for running this course this morning. The temperature was in the high 40s and there was no wind. Jim Bordoni took the lead right away and his only problem after that was remembering the course. Mike Hegglund started slow and then picked it up to finish second.

Dick Barrett Trophy Winner - Betty Root

Inspite of all the races going on this weekend, we still had a good crew of 22 that wanted to get in the workout. We had numerous volunteers to do the timing. However, we skipped getting individual splits since they aren't to meaningful in this relay. Ray gave Ken a good opening lead but Ken rapidly dropped to third behind the Kinsch and Norlander teams. Kinsch held the lead through about 12 legs then Todd started running out of gas and Al Morrison and Norlander pulled away, winning by 17 seconds. Lot of good individual efforts, we gave the Barrett Award to Betty Root for her pulling away from Art Brookman to save her team from last place. All teams started from scratch---
