Easy win for the Gavin/John Pickens team this morning but we gave the weekly trophy to Dave Norlander of the second place team because Ed Gavin, who had not been to a club workout in a very long time, was given a too generous rating. In general, the times were slow (due to the strong wind?) but Dave Piazza, Slim Pickens (who loafed on his first run), John Pickens, and Liz Nast were still able to run PRs. Slim led the guys with splits of 8:00 and 7:32. Kristina Park led the ladies with runs of 8:50 and 8:34. Sadly, this will be Don Dugdale’s last run with us for awhile as he is moving to Wilmington, North Carolina to take an editing job with the sole Wilmington newspaper. Don joined us in 1982 and said that the workout that he ran with us today was the first relay that he ran with the club. He ran it in 15:11 that day (later, improved to 15:04). Today, he ran 24:38.

Phantom Trophy Award Winner: Dave Piazza

We had a good turnout and everyone was in good spirits for a Thanksgiving weekend. We even waited for Neil Gelblum to run up from the lower parking lot before the start. Although the clock did not start, both Jim Bordoni and Madelyn Moon started the timer and sychronized watches for the official timing. This was a good day with 6 PRs, with Dave Piazza improving his time by 62 seconds and Helen Wong with a spectacular improvement of 3:09 minutes. The holiday spirit was in the air and we had 7 buddy pairs running together. Dave Piazza received the Phantom Trophy finishing 2nd to Andy Lief. Becki Kriege and Missy Sudan were the first women and first couple to finish. A large group had breakfast at Carrow's where we celebrated Stan the Man's 81st birthday with a special rendition of Happy Birthday from Michael Moon, aka Mikey.

What a great turnout for this cold, wet and windy day. And how about that pack of super lady runners - 5 in the top 17 , closely followed by tina in 21st and liz, kelly and helen 26, 27, 28th. Due to the rain, many runners left immediately following the run - so with the rain and all, we didn't figure out the trophy winner. I'll work on that during the week and we can make the award at the start of next weeks relay - then take it right back and award it again at the end of the workout.

It really was a great race today - 48 finishers - wow - mike bordoni took a spill - bloodied his knee - not sure who would have won had he not taken a fall. It also appeared as though becki and missy ran in together and tied on purpose. A banner day.

Dick Barrett Trophy Winner – Jake Roberts

The timers today – Dimitrios Stefanidis and Walt Van Zant – did a superior job of timing. The unidentified handicapper did a horrible job.

The Waggoner team started first, briefly gave up the lead, and then stormed to an easy win because of its shameless leadoff runners (Tom Waffle and Dick Chimenti) who had promised to run slow. The last-place team started there and held its ground throughout the race. Congratulations. The weekly trophy was given to the Roberts team because they were the best legit team. The fastest running of the day was done by Dave Piazza at 2:33 per run, Gary Waggoner at 2:35 per run and 50-year-old Jim Bordoni at 2:38 per run. Helen Wong led the ladies at 3:05. Dena Noble destroyed her former arch rival (she noted that he is so slow now that she no longer considers him a rival) by over 2 minutes.

Good turnout for our first all-courses day of the year (the next will be on 12/27). Dave Piazza took home the weekly trophy as he was the first finisher of the Short Six runners. His time was #14 on the 45+ list and we’ve had many fine 45+ runner run this course. All of the fast ladies ran the Triangle course with Katy Spink coming home the winner. Ray Russell led the large contingent that ran the Douglas course. Helen Wong amd John Pickens ran PRs. Dave and Vicki Garcia visited us from Las Vegas. Dave appears to be recovering well from his back surgery and hopes to run the Las Vegas half marathon in March.

* Rating changed after the 4th run by 55 seconds to that shown above.

All teams were rated to finish at 45:00

We had cool, crisp weather at the start this morning, which made for fast times. The Nast team led by 4 seconds at the start of the last run and Liz lengthened the lead to 57 seconds at the end. Liz would probably have gotten the weekly trophy but left before the trophy presentation. Rich Collins, who had not won the trophy in years, was extremely happy to win it. He had tears in his eyes and was still thanking his many friends as we left the track. Andy had the best average of the day at 5:08. Dave Piazza led the 40+ men at 5:15, Jim Bordoni led the 50+ men at 5:32, and Bob Schmitt led the 60+ men at 6:08. Two Aggies led the women – Kristina led all of the women at 5:38 and Liz Nast led the 40+ women at 6:12, 18 seconds per run under her rating. Georgia Riley led the 50+ women at 7:40 and Madelyn Moon was the fastest 60+ woman at 8:38. Thanks to Chris Cassell and Jim Wurm for their timing and recording effort.

Phantom Dick Barrett Trophy Winner – Missy Sudan

Andy Lief had a big lead this morning when he erroneously turned up Chester rather than staying on Sobey until he reached Ten Acres. This meant that he ran an unknown extra distance plus encountering more hills. This put him behind the threesome of Jensen, Sudan, and Kriege. He overcame the deficit and won by about 100 yards. Missy Sudan moved to #3 on the women’s all-time list for this course with her performance this morning. Helen Wong improved her PR by over 2 minutes.

Dick Barrett Trophy Winner – Stan DeMartinis

We had a surprisingly large turnout on this overcast morning. There were so many excellent performances that it will be difficult to mention all of them. Dave Piazza led the pack this morning, coming within one second of his all-time best. Jim Bordoni, who has an all-time best of 18:33, ran the 6th best-ever 50+ time to finish second. Tim Rostege, who ran 28:10 today, has the record at 19:31. Dwight Cornwell visited us from Denver and broke the 55+ course record of 21:02 previously held by Ken Napier by 27 seconds. Becki Kriege and Missy Sudan ran together all of the way as Missy moved to #2 on the women’s list with 21:00. This is 27 seconds behind Becki’s record of 20:33. The two of them were so eager to let the other cross the line first that they slowed and missed cracking 21:00. This equaled Becki’s best time sinc she set the record 13 years ago. Jake Roberts continued his phenomenal improvement of late by bettering his PR by 77 seconds. McKayla’s time moved her to #8 on the all-time women’s list. Dick Chimenti came within one second of tying Ralph Poole’s #2 60+ time of 22:40. Norm Saucedo holds the 60+ record at 22:18. Bob Schmitt improved his PR by 35 seconds as he moved to #5 on the 60+ list. 64-year-old Dave Norlander ran his fastest time on this course in 4 years. Rich Stiller improved his 55+ best by 4 minutes. Chris Cassell improved his PR by 78 seconds. Ken Noel knocked 30 seconds off his 65+ best. Tim Rostege, who has been out with an injury, ran with us for the first time in many months. Marcia Morrison recorded the #5 time by a 55+ woman runner. John Pickens improved his 55+ PR by 67 seconds. Tina Shaner improved her PR by 10 minutes and, thus, escaped last place on the all-time women’s list while moving past 4 runners. Stan DeMartinis improved his 80+ course record by 5 minutes.

8/23/03 – One Mile Races on the Track

Heat #1 (6:30 & Slower)
     1 Rich Collins 7:15.7
     2 Tom Zades 7:26.8
     3 Marcia Morrison 7:48.0
     4 Ken Napier 7:51.0
     5 Madelyn Moon 7:58.6
     6 Dave McCarten 8:08.9
     7 Tina Shaner 8:34.6
     8 Stan DeMartinis 9:14.6
     9 Tom Warfel 23:01.2

Rich Collins ripped off an opening lap of 107 to take a 10 yard lead over Tom Zades. He then ran laps of 113 and 111 to gradually pull away and then sprinted the last lap in 105 to win by 11 seconds. Marcia and Ken ran neck and neck for the entire race with Marcia holding on to finish 3rd. Ken improved his time from our first race by 3 seconds. Madelyn improved by 22 seconds to finish 5th, Dave McCarten improved by 56 seconds to finish 6th, Tina Shaner improved by 5 seconds to finish 7th, and Stan DeMartinis improved by 46 seconds to finish 8th. Tom Warfel, who just had his foot cast taken off, walked a blazing 23:01 to finish last in both the 1st race and the 2nd race.

Heat #2 (5:30 to 6:29)
     1 Danny Moon 5:26.5
     2 Neil Gelblum 5:40.4
     3 Dave McIntyre 5:46.0
     4 Dick Chimenti 5:49.3
     5 Kelly Emo 6:00.2
     6 Bob Schmitt 6:01.4
     7 Joe Hurtado 6:03.6
     8 Helen Wong 6:04.0
     9 Dave Norlander 6:05.3
    10 John Peterson 6:11.7
    11 Chris Cassell 6:17.5
    12 Don Packwood 6:27.6

Danny opened with laps of 74 and 80 to take a big lead in this race. He then staggered home with laps of 87 and 85 to still win by a lot. 6 of the 12 runners in this race were over 60. Dick Chimenti, who was suffering from the effects of a cold, was still good enough to lead the oldies. However, the 60+ runners behind him were closely bunched. Bob Schmitt edged Joe Hurtado by 2 seconds, Dave Norlander was another 2 seconds back, and John Peterson was another 6 seconds back. Don Packwood had an off day, finishing 6 seconds slower than last week. Helen Wong may have run a PR with her 6:04. Chris Cassell was 6 seconds faster than his first mile from a couple of months ago.

Heat #3 (Sub 5:30 Runners)
     1 Andy Lief 4:55.0
     2 Jim Bordoni 4:55.6
     3 Slim Pickens 4:55.9
     4 Gilbert Flores 5:03.7
     5 Jeff Rohrer 5:05.4
     6 Hank Lawson 5:08.2
     7 Dave Piazza 5:09.2
     8 Jake Roberts 5:17.0
     9 Gary Waggoner 5:17.4
    10 Missy Sudan 5:20.5

This race featured our best runners. Any and Gil took everyone out in a 70 first lap with the top 7 runners closely bunched. Andy, Gil, Jim, and Slim began to separate themselves from the field during the 2nd lap, which they finished in 2:28. They still stayed close during the 3rd lap but Gil began to drop off the pace. They finished the 3rd lap in 3:42. Andy, Jim, and Slim maintained their position throughout the last lap as all finished in the 4:55s. Jim was very pleased with his performance, which was slightly better than his than when he finished 3rd in the 50+ division at the National Masters Meet 1500. Slim did not run all out because he was was saving himself for the Mt Madonna Run tomorrow. Gil missed his goal of breaking 5:00, possibly because of the fa st start. Jeff improved his time from our first mile race by 11 seconds. Hank was disappointed that he didn’t break 5:00. Dave Piazza was a few seconds slower than his PR 5:04 of 6/28/03. Jake Robers continued to improve as he bettered his previous mile time by 15 seconds to barely edge Gary, who also bettered his mile time. Missy ran at the back of the group throughout the race. She improved 13 seconds from her first run and 2 seconds on her all-time PR (set at an all-comers meet a couple of weeks ago).

Christina Wilk ran her second lap a remarkable 80 seconds faster than her first lap (11:23 to 10:03). Ray Russell, although he ran a hard 3-miler one hour before the workout, was still good enough to lead all runners with splits of 8:24 and 8:20. Missy Sudan had the fastest splits for the women at 17:37, which was a PR. Tom Warfel, who may be able to start running within a couple of weeks, again did a good job of timing.

Neil Gelblum and McKayla Plank had a good hold on 3rd and 4th place until Neil led them astray at Herriman and Hwy 9 (they missed the turn onto Herriman). Jeff yelled at them to get them back on course. Helen took home the weekly trophy because she improved her PR by a remarkable 186 seconds. Chris improved his PR by 6 seconds. Ken Napier added 54 seconds to his PW. Madelyn improved her 60+ course record by 15 seconds. Stan felt good, ran hard, but mysteriously ran 2 1/2 minutes over his yearly best.

these handicaps.

(2) Bob was originally rated at 11:00 but his rating was changed to 12:00
after hearing his sorrowful tale of why he would run slow.

(3) Norm was originally rated at 13:30 but then changed to 14:30 because he
was not feeling well.

(4) I was originally rated at 14:45 but changed to 16:00 due to not feeling
well.

The Pickens team started last but quickly moved through the field and finally took the lead during the 11th interval on their way to an easy win. There were several good performances. Bob Pickens led the way with a 1:47 average. Al Murray averaged 1:53, 50-year-old Jim Bordoni averaged 1:55, Gary Waggoner averaged 1:58, 61-year-old Bob Schmitt averaged 2:12, and Helen Wong averaged 2:16.

Timer - Tom Warfel, Clip Board - Jim Bordoni, Stick Man - Stan DeMartinis, Lap Counter - Danny Moon

Great day for a 5K, which prompted many spectators who were saving themselves for the Fleet Feet Mile in Davis tomorrow. Scott Bang and Andy Lief took the early lead, alternating each lap for the first 6 laps with Dave Piazza and Slim Pickens following behind them. After the sixth lap, Andy took the lead and maintained it the remainder of the way. Gary Waggoner, Mike King and Jake Roberts, who ran a PR, were running very consistently, staying fairly close to each other. Todd Hayes hung in there after his bout with the Western States 100 miler the week before. He looked okay. The rest of the pack was fairly spread out as the day became a little warmer. It was nice to see Ruth Harris who has not been out for a while. There were words of encouragement " Coffee and Breakfast will be Good" shouted to Jim Wurm as he would stagger past the clock each laps. It did bring a smile to his face! The two bosses, Walter and Ken, were out of town in Laughlin Nevada, running, fishing or was it the one-arm bandits, with the temperature in the 125 range.

Dick Barrett Trophy Winner – Al Murray

Al Murray got the weekly trophy because he won his first Saturday road race in many years. Dick Chimenti recorded the #4 time by a 60+ runner on this course as he led nine 60+ runners this morning. Helen, who has been running slow lately due to a foot injury, came within 3 seconds of her PR. Chris Cassell improved his PR by 24 seconds. We had a record number of PWs (personal worsts). Danny’s was tainted in that he only tied his PW.

6/28/03 – One Mile Races on the Track

Heat #1 (6:35 & Slower)
     1 Helen Wong 6:37.3
     2 Christina Wilk 6:38.3
     3 Walt Van Zant 6:38.8
     4 Jim Myers 6:47.6
     5 Ken Noel 7:14.6
     6 Jerry Lewis 7:48.0
     7 Ken Napier 7:54.4 PW
     8 Pauline Beatty 7:58.1
     9 Madelyn Moon 8:20.5
    10 Tina Shaner 8:39.2
    11 Dave McCarten 9:04.6
    12 Stan DeMartinis 10:00.8 PW
    13 Howard Powers 10:23.3 PW

Jim Myers led this group through opening laps of 1:43 and 3:28. Helen Wong, who was running in the slow heat due to a foot injury, couldn’t stand the slow pace. So, after trailing by about 15 yards for most of the race, she accelerated with a 660 to go and built about a 25-yard lead as she passed through the 3-lap mark in 5:05. She held the lead until the end but Christina Wilk ran very well over the last lap to come from way back to finish within 5 yards of Helen. Jim Myers loafed the whole race to finish 4th. Ken Noel (former 1:48 half miler) also loafed to a 7:14. Jerry Lewis made a rare Saturday workout appearance and at the age of 68 was able to manage a 7:48 (he could run in the 4:40s when he was a kid of 40+). He held off Ken Napier (age 71), who was a little off his mile best of 4:11. Pauline loafed. 78-year-old Howard Powers had a significant lead on 80-year-old Stan with just 100 meters to go when he either tripped or just fell down due to fatigue. He eventually got up ad finished in 10:23. Howard has lost a lot of weight due to his new diet (starvation?) but his new slimness did not help him today.

Heat #2 (5:45 to 6:35)
     1 Chris Baker 5:27.1
     2 Becki Kriege 5:29.3
     3 Missy Sudan 5:33.3
     4 Dimitrios Stefanidis 5:54.1
     5 Ranjeet Sudan 5:54.5
     6 Rich Stiller 5:55.8
     7 Joe Hurtado 6:01.9
     8 Dave Norlander 6:09.5
     9 Chris Cassell 6:23.3
    10 Jim Myers 6:29.6
    11 Rick Kananen 6:40.6

Chris Baker jumped into the lead right away and led for most of the race. He ran laps of 79, 2:41 (82), and 4:04 (83) to take a 20+ yard lead into the last last lap. Becki caught and passed Chris with about 200 meters to go but couldn’t build a big enough lead to hold off his sprint on the final straightaway. Joe Hurtdo missed breaking 6:00 by a slight amount but had the best time of any 60+ runner this morning. Jim Myers loafed again but ran faster than he ran in the first heat.

Heat #3 (Sub 5:45 Runners)
     1 Scott Bang 4:59.6
     2 Dave Piazza 5:04.3 PR
     3 Jim Bordoni 5:05.8

Jim Bordoni had by far the best 50+ time of the day. Al Murray improved his time from last year by 23 seconds. Danny Moon ran a PW of 5:36 on Thursday night in 105-degree weather and showed that he had not recovered as he sunk even further to 5:40 this morning.

Dick Barrett Trophy - Missy Sudan

Today was a great day to run the Triangle course with the sun shining and a slight chill in the air for the start on the run. Andy Lief got out to an early lead and continued to increase his lead running all alone while just missing his PR by 11 seconds. Jorn Jensen just barely missed his PR by 3 seconds and he was pushing Nicholas in the baby jogger! Jorn has been running very well with the baby jogger over the last several weeks. There was talk at Saturday morning breakfast that if the baby jogger is working great for Jorn then maybe some of us should run with one to. Missy Sudan who over several weeks has been running PRs did it once again running a 23 second PR. Mark Isaacson managed a PR also Knocking 20 seconds off his previous best. Our 50+ women Sue Francis is still capturing the 50+ records by carving another 7 seconds off the last Triangle record she set in January 2003. Dick Chimenti and Robert Pickins console each other about their injuries all during the run and did manage to squeak under 40 minutes.

Scott Bang led his team from a last-place start to an easy win with the best average of the day at 3:29. Kristina Mathias led the ladies with a 4:01 average. Alleged USA certified timers and scorers Don Packwood and Jim Bordoni timed and recorded the runners.

We had 10 timers today – Bob Pickens, Helen Wong, Jim Bordoni, Rich Hahn, Dimtrios Stefanidis, Don Packwood, Danny Moon, Al Murray, Joe Hurtado, and John Peterson.

Lenin scored another easy win. Sue Francis broke the women’s 50+ course record by nearly two minutes and Madelyn Moon established a new women’s 60+ course record. Ann Loree and Gary Waggoner were slowed by getting lost. Ann lost a lot of time from her meanderings.

Dick Barrett Trophy Winner - Helen Wong

A great crowd showed up to run Farwell on this bright sunny day with Dimitrios Stefanidis timing, Danny Moon recording, Matt and Mary Kriege handing out sticks. Dimitrios lined everyone up and set them off, that is when I heard all this foreign language about starting the clock, well 10 seconds later we finally got our act together. Patrick Landiselee won his first club race out right by fighting off Becki Kriege who was breathing down Patrick's neck. Mike Toney held off Katy who was really hanging on to Mike. Ray Russell was running for his life as Missy was smoking to a new 1 minute 20 second PR almost finishing ahead of Ray. Mark Isaacson clipped 8 seconds off his previous best for a new PR while Sue Francis set a new women's 50+ record by 51 seconds. Helen Wong put the pedal to the metal to rally a big PR by 2 minutes 34 seconds and Stan DeMartinis smashed his own 80+ record by 3 minutes 9 seconds. Bill Flodberg took the infamous Oak street cutoff through the neighborhood finally finding his way back to the college. Marcia Morrison and Tina Shaner set out to run together so they wouldn't run off the course. When there was no other runners in sight Marcia pushed forward towards Herriman saying "follow me" while Tina was saying "I don't think this is the right way". Well, the rest is history. They both ran the Farwell-Herriman course and still managed to sneak in ahead of Stan DeMartinis. Indeed it was a GOOD DAY TO RUN!

Dick Barrett Trophy Winner – Lenin Zapata

Lenin Zapata, who ran 15:30 for 5K on the track yesterday, ran to an easy win this morning. There were a lot of good performances by the women. Becki recorded the #3 all-time women’s time, Katy recorded the #5 time, Missy recorded the #6 time, and Amanda recorded the #9 time. Al Murray improved his time from last year by nearly 3 minutes and Stan DeMartinis improved by 2 minutes. The first 5 teams took home boxes of candy. Shown below are the top 10 lists for various divisions. I started this list when there was limited competition for 60+ men, 40+ women, and 50+ women. Someday I will create lists for the latter age categories.

If you ran well on the Douglas course last week and well this week, then, you should run 30/60 seconds slower today, depending on your ability level. The faster runners would be 30 seconds slower. Danny Moon started the last lap in 5th place, 1 1/2 minutes out of the lead, and then ran strong to win by about 40 yards, Lenin Zapata and Slim Pickens led the guys with total times of 15:34 and 15:35. Lenin finished with a fast 7:22. Kristina Mathias led a good field of woman runners with a total time of 17:23. Chris Cassell, McKayla Plank, Misy Sudan, and Helen Wong PRd for the workout.

Dick Barrett Trophy Winner – Dave Valles

Despite the very cold weather this morning (mid 30s), there were many good performances. Slim Pickens loafed for the first 100 yards and then took off to win by about 150 yards. Ray Russell, who has a best of 13:54 for this course, ran his best time on this course in over two years to get 3rd place behind Scott. Jim Bordoni ran very well to record the #6 time by a 50+ runner. He was only 3 seconds slower than his 45+ best. Al Murray ran his fastest time for this course in 6 years. The ladies cruised along early in the run, chatting among themselves. They then got serious and buried Danny as Kristina led the way with a 16:50. Missy improved her PR by 18 seconds to move to #9 on the women’s list. Joe Hurtado and Bob Schmitt had a close battle throughout the run for 60+ honors with Joe edging Bob by 2 seconds. Bob improved his PR by 8 seconds to move into a tie with Gene Antonides on the all-time 60+ list. Sue Francis improved her 50+ best by 15 seconds while coming within 8 seconds of the women’s 50+ course record. Dave Norlander, just a few weeks shy of his 64th birthday, came within 14 seconds of his 60+ best. Helen improved her best by 12 seconds while John Peterson missed his PR by 7 seconds. Chris Cassell improved his PR by 41 seconds. Norm Saucedo took it easy early in the run because of the combination of the cold weather and his asthma but then whipped by several runners with a final uphill mile of 6:45. Anne Loree was pleased to average under 8 minutes per mile for the second week in a row. John Pickens missed his all-time PR by 14 seconds but knocked 2 minutes off his 55+ PR. Dave Valles took home the weekly trophy because he broke the 75+ course record by 16 seconds. Stan DeMartinis established a new 80+ course record. Tina Shaner improved her PR by 41 seconds. Ken Napier crowed about beating Howard Powers 70+ best by 1 second but failed to mention that Howard ran 32 seconds faster as a 75+ runner.

Dick Barrett Trophy Winner - Chris Cassell

Jorn and Andy Lief took off fast, passing the mile in 5:28. Lenin said that he was going to run slow and did for awhile, running the first mile in 5:40. But, then he got greedy and sped up to take the lead with about a mile to go and then kept pulling away for the win. Andy, who was recovering from the flu, dropped out at 2 miles. Dave Piazza ran by himself most of the way to finish 3rd. There was an excellent battle for 4th place throughout the race between Becki, Jim & Al. Newly-turned 50+ runner Jim Bordoni ran very well to record a 17:50 to nose out Al at 17:51. Becki ran her best 5K on the track in quite awhile to get a 17:52. Dick Chimenti, who turned 60 last Sunday, led a good 60+ field with his 19:15. Sue led the 50+ ladies with her 21:12. Kelly Emo again conned us. She claimed that she had an upset stomach and would probably drop out but then ran sub-7:00 pace for her run. Helen Wong continued to run very well, recording a 22:06. Chris Cassell got the weekly trophy because he improved his PR by 200 seconds. Rich Collins was extremely pleased to better the 26:48 recorded by Ken in the first heat. Liz Nast dropped out but told us before the run that she would drop out due to lack of conditioning. I thought that I saw John Peterson running in the race but did not see his name in the results. Could this have been a DNF?

Dick Barrett Trophy Winner – Sue Francis

A lot of good times on this cold morning (low 40s?) as both Lenin and Andy broke 27 minutes. Dave Piazza led the 40+ men runners with a good 27:19. Sue Francis took home the weekly trophy because she broke the women’s 50+ course record by 10 seconds. Missy Sudan recorded the #6 woman’s best while knocking 87 seconds off her PR. Bob Schmitt improved to #5 on the men’s 60+ list. Stan established a new 80+ record (He improved his November 2002 time on this course by six minutes). Chris Cassell improved his PR by 85 seconds, John Peterson improved his PR by 76 seconds, and Dave McIntyre improved his PR by 57 seconds. Kelly Emo ran her fastest time on this course since July 2000. Dave McCarten ran the Douglas course in reverse when he found out that we were running the Triangle course rather than the Farwell course. As per a unanimous vote at breakfast, we determined that this should count as a DNF.
