Saturday Trophy Winner – Geoff Bradley
Moderate temperature and slight drizzle this morning for our final run of the year. Sue Francis and Cecil Baumgartner drove up from Southern California to run with us. Sue broke the women’s 70+ record for the Douglas course by 7+ minutes. She also holds the all-time 11th best overall women’s time for this course. Danny Moon improved his 75+ PR by 21 minutes. Wow! Bob Schmitt got lost again on the Short Six course. He ran down Quito Rd for awhile and meandered around the WVC campus before reaching the finish line. Jorn Jensen and Joseph Aubuchon had a good head-to-head battle over the Valle Vista course with Jorn getting the win. Norry was very pleased with his time on the Douglas course.

Saturday Trophy Winner – Norry McAllister
Another cold morning today but, still, some ran well despite the condition. Joseph scored an easy win. Norry won the weekly trophy because he continued to run very well for a 65+ runner. Radha continued his all-time PR binge. This time he broke his all-time 45+ PR by 5 seconds. Andres improved his 45+ best by 19 seconds. Thanks to our many good helpers this morning — Willie Liu, Norm Takeuchi, Alvin Jackson, and Neeraja Nambula. Danny Moon had surgery a couple of weeks ago and will need a few more weeks to recover from his lengthy surgery. His surgeon told him to take it easy for a few more weeks and that the surgery was a success. But, he may have to take away the chair that I have been using at the workouts.

Garry Waggoner did the best estimating, coming within one second of his predicted time. Norry McAllister and Kristina Park took home the Saturday trophy as they came within 9 seconds of their predicted team time. The fastest runners for the guys were Joseph (13:53), Gary (14:44), and Radha (15:10). The fastest gals were Kristina (15:13) and Fatima (16:15).

Radha ran a 13-second PR. Three 70+ ladies (Sue Francis, Nancy Kirk, and Kat Powell) completed the course this morning and only four 70+ ladies have completed this course in the 50 years that we have been running it. And, Sue Francis broke the women’s 70+ course record that was previously held by Nancy Kirk. Danny Moon broke his 75+ record by 10 minutes to move to #8 on the men’s 75+ list. Jeff Justice knocked 6 minutes off his 70+ best (He will soon be 75). Thanks to our finish-line crew of Neeraja Nambula, Norm Takeuchi (from Fresno), and Danny Moon. Thanks also to Dave Piazza, who has been keeping track of the 5-year age-group PRs. Cecil Baugartner made a celebrity appearance after having run a half marathon race last week. He kept offering to give us his autograph but received no takers. In summary, most of us had a good day before driving down to the restaurant

Cold morning today but still some runners managed to run PRs. Joseph ran to an easy win. Radha ran another all-time PR, which is very good for a runner who has been running for awhile. Some saw him jabbing himself with a needle before the race. He said that it was a flu shot that he bought at a new drug store in San Francisco. Joseph was very impressed with his son’s time. Danny Moon ran the 7th best-ever 75+ time by a club runner on this course.

Weekly Club Trophy Winner – Heather Rohrer and Missy Sudan
Six teams were made up prior to Saturday which made it easier and much faster to start the relays. Radha Nambula had the fastest splits of 2:08 followed by Gary Waggoner averaging 2:09 for their splits, with Kristina Park averaging 2:11.5 for the women’s splits. Thanks to Mark Goldman, Neeraja Nambula, Dwayne Spencer,Todd Hayes, Danny and Walter who had a tough job timing and recording with the exchanges on both sides of the track. They did the best they could recording enough information to allow us to create the results. There were 9 runners under their predicted times and three runners that were very close to their predicted times who are very happy with their performances.

Club Weekly Trophy Winner – Radha Nambula
A cool start this morning for this group of runners many of whom ran well with only 2 PRs. Once again Radha Nambula scored another all time PR of 36 seconds (his 10th PR for this year) and Danny Moon had a 44 second PR for 75+. Geoff Bradley and Gary Waggoner pushed each other to finish 1st and 2nd followed by Radha Nambula hanging on to them to claim his PR run. Kristina Park was the first women in finishing 4th with Missy Sudan at 8th while Catherine Frye running very well after her surgery. We had a sprint battle between Wille Liu and Neil Gelblum both finishing with just 0.8 seconds apart, made for an exciting moment. Many of our runners were surprised to be cheered on by club member Jenny Gonzalez on the corner of Saratoga Ave and Juniper Lane which gave them a boost of energy.

Saturday Trophy Winners – Gary Waggoner & Todd Hayes
All teams should have finished in 45:30 if they had correctly rated themselves. The Waggoner-Hayes team did the best job of rating themselves as they came within 5 seconds of their predicted team time. Gary Bradley led the guys with an average of 3:49 per run and was followed by Norry. Norry was particularly happy because of his 4:09 average, which is very good for a 65+ runner. The ladies were led by Kristina and Becki. Mark was celebrating his 2 first place finishes in our football pool. But Dino broke Mark’s streak this week but by only 2 points. 11 players in the pool finished within 2 points of each other. Thanks to our helpers – Willie Liu and Danny Moon, who served under difficult conditions – runners not starting when they were given the correct starting time and runners getting lost on the course. We did have to resort to having runners tell us their splits after the race but I do not think that any of the splits are off by more than a few seconds.

24 runners competed this morning under cool weather conditions that was conducive to fast running. This got us 2 PRs – a 63-second improvement by Radha and a 13-second improvement by Lan. Gary Waggoner won a race for the 3rd time this year, winning by 200+ meters. Our excellent timing crew of Willie Liu, Neeraja Nambula, and Danny Moon, all of whom ran the course first so that they could time the race, did another good job of compiling the results and timing the runners.

Based upon times that each team estimated, all teams were predicted to finish in 31 minutes. Most teams finished well under their estimates with the Aubuchon team coming the closest at 27 seconds. Their reward was finishing 7th out of the 8 teams. But they did win the weekly trophy. The fastest runners were Joseph Aubuchon at 10:28, Radha Nambula at 10:53, Gary Waggoner at 11:02 and Norry McAllister at 11:03. Norry was very happy with his performance.

We had good competition among most of the runners in the race this morning. Willie Liu, given the chance to win a race, had a fast sprint finish at the end of the race to hold off three runners who were desperately trying to catch him. Geoff, Ray, and Norry finished within 12 seconds of Willie and Scott, Kristina, Wayne, Jorn, Radha, and Brian finished another few seconds back. This may have been the closest mass finish in the history of the event. Becki, Missy, Walt and Ken Camet met on Saturday afternoon to handicap the race. It should be noted that the entire committee agreed that if anyone got an unfair handicap that it was probably due to a mistake by an overly zealous Becki. I would also like to note that those who saw Willie giving me some cash after the race completely drew the wrong conclusion that this was a payoff for recommending a change in his handicap at the handicap meeting. There was absolutely no connection between the two incidents. Geoff Bradley had the fastest scratch time of the day, Kristina had the fastest time for the ladies, and Jorn won the closest predicted time contest.

Nice turnout this morning with Geoff Bradley running to an easy win. Radha again ran a PR with a 35 second improvement. His time qualified him for movement into the B division from the C division as he ran more than a minute better than the C division standard. I’m not sure that that makes him happy Richi Agarwal also PRd with a 4:23 PR. Danny Moon improved his 75+ best by 16 seconds while looking smooth at the finish line. Scott Bang, who has been running poorly lately due to an injury, showed signs of a recovery with a good run this morning. Rich Hanh visited us from the East Coast and then came to breakfast with us. Thanks to our finish-line crew of Rich Hanh, Danny Moon, and Neeraja Nanbula. Your club president nearly quadrupled his PR for this course. I’ll get it next time.

33 different club members ran with us this morning, starting at 7:30AM. Most of them ran well. Joseph had the fastest time and was closely followed by Geoff Bradley. There was only one all-time PR and that was by Luke Aubuchon at 6:50. Thanks to our timing crew of Danny Moon, Madelyn Moon, and Neeraja Nambula. Also, thanks to Radha Nambula for again taking the group pictures after our races. All were impressed with the remarkable speed shown by Radha for the last picture, which included Radha, as he was able to start the camera and then was able to race to the group picture group before the picture was completed.

Gary and Radha ran together for the first 2 miles before Gary began to get away, winning by about a minute. Radha won the phantom trophy because he ran an all-time PR by and it was his birthday. Jeff Justice won the trophy last week but did not come today with the trophy, allegedly because his car broke down. The rumor floating around the track was that Jeff has become quite fond of the trophy and used the car story as an excuse for not returning the trophy. George Lo beat his 50+ best by 4 seconds. Becki bettered her 55+ PR by 21 seconds while recording the 2nd best-ever women’s 55+ time for this course. The first three races today counted for inclusion in our Racer of the Year contest. The remaining races will count as one of our regular relay races.
There is a discrepancy in some of the reported 800 times. The 800 time trial times are the only marks that count in any of our contests today — that means the Racer of the Year contest.
Thanks to our timers – Danny Moon and Chris Blue. They did a good job under difficult conditions. We discovered that the stop watch that they were using was malfunctioning but did not discover the malfunction until the following week when a backup watch showed the errors with the watch that we used today. We corrected the times as best that we could.

Saturday Trophy Winner Jeff Justice
Jeff Justice ran very well this morning and, consequently was awarded the Saturday trophy. Jorn Jensen had the best average for the relay runners at 2:44 per run. Thanks to our large crew of helpers, which included Danny Moon, Chris Blue, Jim Bordoni, Alvin Jackson, Don Packwood, and Willie Liu. Joseph Aubuchon had the best time for the men in the time trial with a time of 2:20. Not as fast as his collegiate time of 1:54 but very good for a 40+ runner. He was closely followed by Darren Strange at 2:24, Geofff Bradley at 2:28, Jorn Jensen at 2:31, and Radha Nambula at 2:38. Missy Sudan led the ladies at 2:54.

Saturday Trophy Winner – Don Packwood
Geoff Bradley and Ray Rodriguez had a good battle until the very end with Geoff out-sprinting Ray for the win. Perhaps the outcome would have been different if Ray had fully recovered from a leg injury. Geoff recorded a 14-second age 50+ PR to move to #33 on the 50+ list out of 106 50+ runners. Ray has the 60+ club record at 17:47. Radha ran his all-time PR for this course. Becki ran her best-ever 55+ time to finish in a tie with Missy. Becki’s time moved her to #2 on the women’s 55+ list. Most of the runners liked our mewly initiated starting time for the summer of 7:30AM. Although Don Packwood did not run this morning, he was awarded the weekly club trophy for his excellent timing efforts on his 83rd birthday.

Saturday Trophy Winner – Dwayne Spencer
We had 3 events this morning, which included 4 different races with 54 runners in these 4 races. It was difficult to determine who should get the weekly trophy. But we decided that Dwayne Spencer should get it as he ran an all-time 3K PR, including winning the longest race – the 3K. Geoff Bradley was given serious consideration for the trophy as he competed in 3 races while winning all of them. There were several other notable performances that I will not mention for fear of overlooking some very good performances.

Saturday Club Trophy Winner – Norry McAllister
We started our morning run today under warm conditions, which many of the 26 runners complained about. Some of our slower runners did start early in order to escape the heat. However 4 of the 11 runners who ran this event in January and today were able to better their January times. Norry McAllister did not run a PR but despite his advanced age of 67 was able to average near 7 minutes per mile and earned the receipt of the weekly trophy. Jorn Jensen, Antoine Manens, Dwayne Spencer, and Roberto Palos led the men with sub-20 runs. Heather Rohrer, Becki Kriege, Missy Sudan, and Angie Weinberger led the ladies.

Weekly Trophy Winner – Missy Sudan
Very warm morning for our runners as temperatures started about 68 and 76 when they finished. Joseph AuBuchon took an early lead finishing strong for the win as Dwayne Spencer finished 2nd feeling good and healthy once again. George Lo is back running very well. He finished ahead of Kristina Park, Heather Rohrer and Darren Strange as they were blinded by George’s bright lime green outfit. Hats off to Bob Kemp and Robert Navarette who helped our newest runner Joe Cohn navigate the short six course. Robert Pickens also made sure that Sharron Reiss-Miller was able to finish the short six course. Great job from our finish line crew Willie Liu, Radha Nambula, Chris Blue, and Danny Moon. Bob Schmitt had a 80+ PR of 2 minute 48 second moving him to #4 on the 80+ list. Missy Sudan was presented the phantom weekly trophy by Joseph for achieving 5th place in PAUSATF women 50+ receiving free comps for next years races. Becki Kriege also finished 4th in women 50+ PAUSATF receiving free comps for next years PAUSATF races.

Good cool running weather this morning, which led to fast times. As has been our practice this past year, everyone predicted their own relay time. These predictions were then used to put the teams together and to determine their starting times. In general. most of the runners made good predictions. The runners who made the best predictions included Ken Camet (1 second), Fatima Machado (3 seconds), Ranjeet Sudan (5 seconds), (Norry (9 seconds), and Darren Strange (10 seconds). The fastest male runners included Rohan Agarwal with a 5:07 average, Joseph Aubuchon with a 5:47 average, Dwayne Spencer with an 18:01 average, George Lo with a 6:23 average, Darren Strange with a 6:23 average, Andy Williams with a 6:46 average. Radha and Norry also ran well but did not give me a large enough bribe to warrant a mention. Our fastest lady was Kristina Park with a 6:11 average. That is not as good as finishing 2nd in the XC NCAA finals many years ago but stiil good for a 50+ runner. Missy Sudan averaged 6:48 per mile and Fatima Machado averaged 6:59 per mile. Alvin Jackson, Madelyn Moon, Don Packwood, and Danny Moon helped at the finish line, which is a very difficult job for this relay. wvz

Weekly Club Trophy Winner –Team Adam Prince and George Lo
A warm summer morning brought out 22 runners who all signed up for the 12 x 800 meter relay. Eleven teams were made up prior to Saturday which made it easier and much faster to start the relays. Joseph AuBuchon had the fastest splits of 2:42.5 followed by Adam Prince and Radha Nambula both averaging 2:59 for their splits, with Fatima Machado averaging 3:15 for the women’s splits. Thanks to Don Packwood and Robert Pickens who had a tough job timing and recording doing the best they could recording enough information to allow me to create the results. There were 16 runners way under their predicted times who are very happy with their performances, so we expect to see them improving throughout the year.

We had 18 club runners at our Saturday club workout this morning as we had many othe club runners running at the popular Stow Lake race in San Franciso. Wayne Spencer grabbed the lead as soon as our race started, doing his best to stay in front of Geoff but coming up about 100 yards behind Dwayne at the end. There were no PRs by the runners. Dwayne won the weekly trophy as a reward for his win.

Club Weekly Trophy Winner – Antoine Manens & Robert Pickens for best predicted team time.
A cloudy cool morning with 6 teams made from our online relay sign up sheet with the runners predictions. Five teams ran under their predicted times with Kristina Park running the closest to her prediction with Bob Schmitt close behind her. Joseph AuBuchon had the mens fastest splits and Kristina Park had the fastest splits for the women. There were many great performances including eight of sixteen runners running 16 minutes or under. Our timing crew of Mike Krey, Des Knuckey, Alvin Jackson, Don Packwood, Walter VanZant & Danny Moon did a super job.DM Most runners ran much faster than they expected making this an awesome workout. Our two youngest runners Sahasra and Shreyas Nambula were helping pace two of our more mature runners Bob Schmitt and Willie Liu. Adam Prince joined us this week with a fine display of running good for our cross country team.
Step up/Step Down Relay 5/20/23
Walt Van Zant Trophy Winner: Joseph AuBuchon & Mark Goldman; Timers/Recorders: Walt, Becki, Ken, and Wilie
My dad put the teams together and Ken and I tried our best to get all the times. Willie did crowd control. We started off strong, but I got off track about four minutes into the workout and never fully recovered. This was Meghna, Rishi, and Riaan’s first relay workout with the team. Welcome! We have promised them that not all the workouts are this tricky to manage.
Joseph and Mark came closest to their rating, so they earned the phantom trophy. Well done!

Club Weekly Trophy Winner – Norry McAllister for best predicted time
A cloudy cool morning with 7 teams made from our relay sign up sheet with our runners predictions. Six teams ran under their predicted times with Norry McAllister running the closest to his prediction with Mark Goldman, Scott Graham and Joseph AuBuchon close behind him. Joseph had the fastest splits and Radha Nambula had smoking hot splits finishing second fastest for the men. Kat Powell did a great job running her splits as we continue to set her off for each leg. Neeraja Nambula had the fastest splits for the women with Lynn Dai following her, both well under their predictions. Predicted Sand Bag Winner is Willie Liu for running 4 minutes 6 seconds under his own prediction. It appears that Willie is over his injury (got to do a blood test).

Cool start this morning for this group of runners many of them ran well with only three PRs. Ranjeet Sudan had a 60+ PR of 1 minute and 47.7 seconds, Fatima Machado had a 1.7 seconds all time PR and Jenny Gonzalez had enough sprint for an all time PR of :00.6 seconds. Joseph AuBuchon and Roberto Palos ran side by side most of the race both finishing together first & second. Kristina Park was first woman to finish with George Lo trying to chase her down. Andy Williams had his sights on Radha Nambula but was not able to catch him as he put on a final sprint. Darren Strange paced his son 11 year old Jonah to a 8:52 per mile pace, great job. Jonah is getting ready to run with some of us big boys soon!

A bright sunny cool morning for this 8 x 1200 Meter relay of 11 teams made from our relay sign up sheet. Most teams ran under their predicted times with Missy Sudan and Ken Camet running only one second off their predicted times. Joseph AuBuchon and Gary Waggoner had the fasted men’s times while Kristina Park had the fastest woman’s time. Robert Pickens had to pulled out during his first 1200 meter leg while Kat Powell was able to finish her 1200s with Roberts timing help. Joseph was able to rally on his last lap to catch Kristina and hold on for the win. Lots of fast times for many of the runners for this track workout, must have been the sunshine instead of rain. Our finish line crew did a fantastic job with all the exchanges / hand-offs.

Kristina, Dil, and Becki were the top three women finishers. Becki took 53 seconds off her 55+ best to move to #3 on the 55+ list. Andy Williams visited for the 2nd time in several years. He has working on a temporary job in Australia. Tim Souza made another rare appearance and intends to train harder with the hope of making a substantial improvement in his times. Jeff Justice ran with us for the first time in a long time. He has been suffering from the same disease as Tim Souza – a severe case of running lazziitis. Better running weather for the first time in awhile – slight drizzle and moderate temperature.

6 teams were set up with an estimated score of 50 each. The estimated ratings were based upon times run in our Saturday workouts during the past year. It was estimated that Joseph Aubuchon would win but he had just spent a week in Asia and got back on the night before the race. So, he was unable to contend for the win. Antoine ran very well to get the win.
We started this event in 1979 as a relay to replace the old Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz 50-mile relay and anyone could run in our relay with us. After a few years, we changed the format so that just club members could participate in the relay. The fastest time when we first ran the relay was 27:46 for one leg. Our fastest runners were Bill Meinhardt at 29:09, Jake White at 29:17, Kent Guthrie at 29:17, and Ted Pawlak at 29:17. 16 other club members broke 33 minutes, including your editor at 31:47. Danny Moon had a best time of 30:47 in 1986. Former club member Bob Ebert ran 28:04 in 1992. As you could imagine, running this relay took a fair amount of time. So, in 2000 we switched to running the race to just running one leg of the course as an individual race and have been doing so ever since that time. We switched to scoring the meet as a cross country meet in 1999. WVZ

Cool with no rain just wet roads this morning great for running. Joseph Aubuchon and Gary Waggoner took out quickly setting the pace while Kristina Park lead the ladies holding off the rest of the pack. Carolyn Wang had a 92 second PR chasing Robert Navarrete and Dimitri Stefanidis. Thanks to our finish line crew Scott Graham, Walt Van Zant and Danny Moon. When Robert Navarrete heard who deserves to get the trophy, he said “I DO” since he had to run like crazy to keep Carolyn Wang from catching him!

This was a cool foggy morning for the 5000 meter race with this larger group of runners. Antoine Manens and Geoff Bradley switch back & forth with the lead followed by Joseph Aubuchon and Roberto Palos trying to stay on their heels but Antoine took the lead with 600 meters holding on for the win. Kristina Park lead the ladies field of six runners while Dwayne Spencer had another PR by 41 seconds, Neeraja Nambula had a PR by 63 seconds, Roberto Palos had a PR by102 seconds and Ian Klassen had a PR by 103 seconds. There were many great performances for this 5000 Meter run and our runners liked having both clocks to help them with their laps.

Due to construction on the campus, this is the second time that we had to replace our 8 x 0.66M relay with this relay around the tennis courts. A portion of the revised course includes a patch of mud in between the tennis courts. This factor combined with the heavy rain that we had this morning made the predictions that the runners made a few days before the relay very problematic. But, as can be seen from the ratings above, most of the runners did a good job of predicting their performances. The Radha/Joseph team took home the weekly trophy because they came closest to predicting their finish time of 44:30. All teams were predicted to finish in 44:30 based upon the estimated times that they predicted for themselves.
The fastest actual times for the guys were 15:13 by Antoine, 15:17 by Joseph, 15:36 by Geoff, and 16:50 by Gary. The fastest ladies were Fatima Machado at 19:23 and Dil Ibrahim at 20:01.

Geoff and Antoine were side by side as they entered the college for the final finish. When Antoine realized that Geoff had more speed, he let up. However, Antoine still recorded a PR. The first five runners finished within a minute of each other. On the ladies side, Heather recorded a win as she was visiting from Portland. Dil recorded a PR.
